UBER TORONTO

Uber currently offers eight car options in the Toronto, Ontario area:

1. UberX (A cost-affordable option, and most common Uber service, that seats up to four passengers.)
2. UberHop (A service that caters to riders who share destinations along Toronto’s busiest commuting routs.)
3. UberPool (A service that matches riders and their destinations in an effort to ease cost and waiting times for their customers.)
4. UberXL (A cost-efficient service for those looking to seat up to six passengers.)
5. UberSelect (A premium option for those passengers looking to ride in more upscale vehicles)
6. UberBlack (An option for those looking to ride in select, upscale, black cars.)
7. UberSUV (A premium service that provides vehicles that seat up to six passengers.)
8. UberWAV (A wheelchair-accessible rideshare service that can provide transportation to those individuals with disabilities.)

Requirements for Becoming an Uber Driver in Toronto

UberX/XL requirements:

  • Driver must be at least 21 years of age
  • Drivers must provide valid Ontario driver’s license
  • Drivers must have an accepted vehicle (check below for additional info)

UberX/XL Vehicle Requirements:

  • Your vehicle must have 4 doors (which open independently).
  • Your vehicle must be from the year 2005 or newer.
  • You must have a clean title (no salvage titles are allowed).
  • Your vehicle must be In excellent condition (cosmetically, as well as structurally/mechanically).
  • Your vehicle cannot be a taxi-cab or a full-sized van.

For UberXL:

  • All of the points listed above apply equally to XL.
  • All XL vehicles must seat the driver AND at least 6 additional passengers.

UberSelect:

  • Your vehicle must have four doors and five seat belts.
  • Your vehicle must be a 2008 model or newer.
  • The interior of your vehicle must be leather.

UberWAV:

UberSUV:

  • Your vehicle must be from the year 2005 or newer.
  • Your vehicle must comfortably seat six passengers.

UberBlack:

  • The exterior and interior of your car must be black.
  • Your vehicle must comfortably seat at least 4 passengers.
  • Your vehicle must be a 2013 model or newer.

UberX/XL document requirements:

All Uber drivers must provide these documents for their Uber account to be officially activated:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Vehicle Title/Registration
  • Vehicle Insurance (vehicular insurance must list a vehicle & driver’s name directly on the policy document itself)
  • City-Required Vehicle Inspection Certification

Driver’s License:

To drive for Uber in Toronto, you are required to have a Ontario driver’s license. Make sure your name is on the license (and that your license has not gone past its expiry date). Uber also accepts application (or receipts) for new or renewed licenses.

Vehicle Registration:

You’ll need to provide a photo of your license plate (including current/non-expired tabs), or your vehicle’s title documents.

If you have purchased a new vehicle recently but have not received its title, Uber accepts bills of sale, temporary license plates, application for title/registration, or license plates (with current/non-expired tags).

 

Insurance:

Ontario Auto Policy

You must upload proof of insurance, which lists your name (as a driver), in addition to the vehicle you will be driving. Your insurance won’t be approved if you, personally, are not listed as the vehicle’s driver. Make sure your insurance has not gone out of date.
